The investigation of this case went on for two long weeks. Numerous students of the school were questioned and their valuable tips helped the administrators track down nine kids who were either found in possession of the drug or were tipped for possessing it. Just in the following week after the incident, another incident took place within the school premises and this time three more children were added in the list of the kids who were found to be in possession of illegal marijuana. The principal of the school also said that such an illegal act of drug possession was definitely rare in a middle school setting in Florida and in his three year term at Hobbs Middle, this was the second time a similar case occurred. When investigation was conducted 0.4 grams of marijuana was seized. With this there was another bag which was seized and it contained marijuana joints.

With all these, twenty cigarettes were also found out from the office of the sheriff. All these were evidence enough of what were some students in the school, up to. Shell said that the incident was very surprising but he was at least glad that the other students felt free enough to come up to the administrators and let them know about the addicted students. The sheriff also reported that a student had admitted to a teacher that he or she had paid some student $10 for buying the drug. After the student admitted to have purchased the drug, he or she handed it over to the teacher. The student got the drugs from his or her house along with packs of cigarettes.
